Beautiful British Columbia

Looking back on a wonder Thanksgiving weekend spent in the BC mountains. I was living in Gravelbourg, but had nothing to do for Thanksgiving, so a wonderful friend invited me home with her. She grew up in Jaffery, BC and she was right; it just smells good the minute you get there. It is so beautiful and fresh. I totally understand why people love going there. We went on a little sight-seeing excursion, unfortunately I do not remember the names of where we went, but the pictures are too beautiful not to share.

Piper's Lagoon Beach in Nanaimo, BC - Vancouver Island

Neck Point, Piper’s Lagoon & Departure Bay, Nanaimo

I spent the afternoon after I got off the plane driving along the coast enjoying the sights close to home. Piper’s Lagoon, Neck Point and Departure Bay are all local favourites for spending the day by the ocean. It was amazing to me how strong the ocean smelt here. I don’t remember the ocean smelling as much to me when I was younger or in Mexico or Cuba. It was a beautiful, sunny day to enjoy the water’s edge. The wind was a little sharp at times and staying near the trees helped cut down on the cold. Neck Point A beautiful beach with some trails winding along the coast taking you into the cliffs to get a wonderful view. Some excellent areas for photography, there was a another group there at the same time taking fashion photos. At base there is a concrete pad with benches that has been well used for photo sessions and weddings. The view off the platform is a wonderful compliment to any day. Piper’s Lagoon A beautiful walking path that takes …

Hike in Camping at the Gem Lakes, Saskatchewan

So Last weekend I drove out at the crack of dawn to a beautiful little jewel in the rough the almost no one has heard about… The Gem Lakes. It’s not surprising because they are well hidden and although they are in a provincial park in Canada they are relatively unadvertised. The only reason my husband (Rob) discovered their existence was by googling “best trout fishing in Saskatchewan.” Rob’s massive passion is fishing and our summer got off to a slow start, but we are getting into it hard. The last 3 weekends we have been camping, fishing and getting into nature true forest people. My husband and I made a quick camping trip to Cypress Hills Interprovincial park, then upped our game huge and went to Wateron National Park where we got a taste of and a hankering to go hike in wilderness camping. We were going to go to Waterton again because we had heard that some of the best fishing is hike in… But we decided that our virgin trip into the …

King Carls Castle, Cortez Island

My aunt Susan took both my sister and I on separate trips to wherever we wanted to go. My sister chose surfing in Tofino and I chose exploring Cortez Island, where we found King Carl’s Castle. It is a homemade castle and very realistic to its period. It has a kitchen and bathrooms. Many, many bedrooms. People apparently could rent it for weddings and parties. Definitely interesting and you can tell the creator had some fun with it.
